Nikki Ocean’s first solo exhibition is unveiled at the Video Room. Entitled Wet on Wet: the Cusp before the Beach House, the show features paintings in acrylic on wood and paper. Arranging the works in a whimsical and decorative manner throughout the square confines of the exhibit space, Nikki Ocean invites the viewer into a surreal world inhabited by the creatures of the earth and sea: a tiger eating flowers, whales moving through the sky, sharks and blooms drifting through waves of hues.
The exhibit is an affirmation of paradise in this world, of seeking meaning and solace in the spirits of the earth and sea. The works reflect how it is possible to navigate through the currents of life and “learning from the rawest of spirits,” as the artist describes it.
